Sunglasses Types – Choose the best types for your eyes.

The days of yore had them in the form of polished gems (ancient Rome); of glasses that were smoke tinted (medieval China and Italy); while Nero used them as a means to add more color to the visual pleasures of watching gladiators fight, both China and Italy, before 1430, used sunglasses in the form of colored-quartz pieces for judges, for them to hide expressions during trials.
The 20th Century saw the sunglass becoming a fashion statement and witnessed the different sunglasses types - not only the wide ranges brought forth by the renowned fashion houses, but also the cheap sunglasses types. The sunglasses types also became a sort of identity for certain clans, e.g. Aviators; the range was named after the profession of airmen; however, all types of sunglasses have one thing in common - they protect the eyes from the sun by reducing glare. The trend that initiated in Atlantic City, New Jersey became popular within no time; by 1930, sunglasses became sort of a second skin and onwards the 1960s, a few more different sunglasses types emerged; this time, purely for the sake of fashion.
Among the different types of sunglasses, it is the polarized variety (courtesy: Edwin H. Land) and the UV protection types that still stay popular; aesthetically, the different sunglasses types also became cultural phenomenon, especially among the celebrities, powerful people and the rich. And since imitation is an age-old practice, cheap sunglasses types also came up to give the plebeian a taste somewhat similar.
A broad categorization would bring to front only a couple of sunglasses types – for ladies and for men, which can further be divided into the domain of prescription sunglasses and ordinary sunglasses. While the former ones come with lenses built according to individual specifications, the latter is the commercial variety available over the counter. But then, further classifications can be made depending upon their respective utility; functionality; lens types; styles and designs and in this digital age, the ones laden with technology. However, the different sunglasses types from renowned brands hold certain features as standards; these include UV protection and anti-glare properties as the most widely accepted ones.
According to the lenses, sunglasses can be categorized as Blue-blockers, Polarized and anti-reflective, Mirror-coated, Gradients and Photochromatic; among the prescribed ones, the different sunglasses types chiefly comprise the specifications common with powered glasses. But needless to say that the largest list is the gift of the changing faces of fashion; from the Aviator to the Golf sunglasses, from wraparounds to Clip-Ons, from night-glasses to motorcycle and skiing goggles, sunglasses types is a huge subject that keeps on growing. Of late, different types of sunglasses have also entered baseball, cricket and the tennis scenario, giving rise to a large sub-category by itself – the different sunglasses types in the sports arena have also started incorporating the vintage designs, making the word retro synonymous to these types of sunglasses.
